Dr Yolanda Ohene Named Finalist for EDI Award at the 2025 WiNUK Awards
We are delighted to share that Dr Yolanda Ohene, part of our Imaging theme, has been selected as a finalist for the Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) Award at this year’s Women in Neuroscience UK (WiNUK) Awards, taking place in November.
The award recognises individuals who have made outstanding efforts to promote equality, diversity, and inclusion within the neuroscience community. Yolanda’s work exemplifies these values through her research, advocacy, and public engagement.
Currently a Wellcome Trust Accelerator Fellow at the University of Manchester, Yolanda is developing MRI tools to study neurovascular dysfunction in dementia, with a strong emphasis on improving inclusion of underrepresented communities in clinical research. Her academic journey includes an MSci in Physics from Imperial College London and a PhD in Medical Imaging from UCL.
Beyond her research, she is a passionate leader in EDI. As Director of Education and Development for The Blackett Lab Family, she leads initiatives such as Amplify, a residential event for undergraduate physicists of Black and mixed-Black heritage, and Representing Physics, aimed at sixth form students. She also developed a university placement programme to support access to Russell Group universities.
Her impact spans academia, education, and outreach, making her an exceptional nominee for this award.
We wish Yolanda the very best of luck at the award ceremony in November!
